Members - important info about passwords! |
    |
This is gonna read like a novel but I'll try to keep it concise.
Folks, there are hackers out there worldwide who use special programs to try to guess their way into paysites. The programs run 24 hours a day trying various username/password combinations to try to log in.
Most paysites like mine have a system that notices too many "guesses" and then blocks the IP address that the "guessing" is coming from.
Most of the hackers have a system that then automatically switches to some other IP and starts trying to guess other combinations.
Naturally my site can't simply ignore every request out there. It's gotta give a person a few tries... after all, some of you folks can't always remember your password, LOL.
But my system will notice especially if a certain username is being "badgered" with guesses from many different IP addresses over a day.
If the system feels that username/password combination is weak, it suspends access to that account and sends me a notice telling me to change something in that username/password.
The system especially notices if a username consists of a word, or two words, or a word plus a couple of numbers, or if that combo was used for your previous membership (which means you probably use that combo at a lot of websites which is bad), or if that username matches somebody's email address on the world wide web. Hacker programs are LOOKING for phrases like that and have them plugged into their massive lists to use in guesswork.
Annnnnnyway when I get a system notice I dutifully change something in the username or password and then I reactivate the access. Sometimes the user/pass combo seemed pretty good to me already but I change it because otherwise the system is just gonna notify me again in a few hours.
Long ago I stopped asking the member what kind of change they wanted because they often emailed back asking me for combinations they'd had before or combinations that the system felt were even easier to guess than the current one.
Now, there's not much you can do RIGHT NOW about your current username/password combination if you've picked something too easy to guess by countless computers hammering away at thousands of pornsites all over the world wide web. But, do think about it next time you pick a user/pass combo for a new membership. Pick something new and different.

P.S. Did you know that some of the "free forums" you've signed up to over the years, that asked you to pick a user/pass combination for yourself, they secretly added those combos to hacker lists to check at other websites? BE CAREFUL! Thank you. |
